Ice arena
For the first time in the world practice of building of covered skating rinks the cooled slab of the ice arena consists of 5 parts: the main running track (400 m), the training track with the hockey playground for children (200 m), the area where sportsmen may practice in turning and the playground for curling. Each part can be cooled and covered with ice autonomously and not depending of the state and the temperature regime of other parts. The ice arena includes as well two zones free of cooling.
The important fact about the cooled slab is that the ring of the main running track has no cross seams as it is made of a high-quality concrete. While making this concrete, special frost-resisting cement was used. Each temperature cross seam brings changes in the ice temperature and as a result the changes in the running rhythm.
The ice arena of the Sc “Krylatskoye” allows carrying out competitions on the world level in any ice kind of sport: speed skating, bandy, hockey, figure skating, short track, curling.
The complex is a unique one as it can seat about 2000 people at one time for a mass skating.
Besides, once transformed, the ice arena can be also used for carrying out competitions in summer kinds of sport. The example is the World tennis championship among female teams in 2004.
